What We Do
The Division of Solid Waste Management provides weekly collection of residential refuse, recycling, bulk and brush, commercial refuse collection, and seasonal collection of bagged leaves. See below for a brief description of our programs.
Refuse collection is provided to all city residences. Each household is issued a 96-gallon automated container, known as "Big Blue," which is mechanically serviced by a One-Arm Bandit Truck on a weekly basis.
Single-Stream Recycling collection is provided on a biweekly (A week or B week) basis the same day as residential refuse collection. To maximize the productivity of this program, both paper and plastic, and other recyclables can be placed in the recycling cart for pickup.
Residences that have alley collection can combine paper and plastic recyclables in the small green recycling bins.

The Central Business District is now mostly a self-service trash and recycling district. The city currently has four sealed compactor zones. These four zones allow residents and businesses to dispose of their trash and recycling 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Click here for more information.
